What a Show!! The 15th annual “Revving It Up For Education Car Show” sponsored by the Ventura County Regional Occupational Program and the Pleasant Valley Lions Club was a success again this year. This was the 2nd year that is has been held on our own campus. We could not put on such a successful show if not for our sponsors, participants and staff. Last year we had 200 registered participants while this year we had 143, which is down from our record of 206 and significantly from last year. Our Pleasant Valley Lions Club was out in force directing cars and serving their famous mouth watering Lions Burgers. We were happy to have the public on hand looking at all the fantastic cars and visiting all our spectacular vendors. This year: Ø In the Kid’s Area there were free Child ID photos and finger printings for parents, courtesy of Pat and Kathy Riggs of AAMCO Transmission of Oxnard. Pat is the Secretary and Treasury of the Automotive Service Council #2 of Ventura County. Ø All About Transmissions held an opportunity drawing in their vendor booth and was pleased to announce that won a Jim Burnett won a 700 R4 transmission. Ø We were pleased to have a New Camaro Convertible and a New Chevy Volt courtesy of Paradise Chevrolet. Ø The California Highway Patrol brought their high performance Chase Vehicle which is always a hit. Ø Our professional photographer was back this year taking our complimentary pictures. Charlene’s Photography took so many wonderful pictures and we were able to hand out almost all of them and you will find a link to Charlene’s web site in our picture section and she would be glad to sell you a professional photo of your car. Ø Our farthest cars were from Arizona For those of you who love statistics: ü The Lions sold 244 Lion Burgers, 83 hot dogs and over 353 Drinks ü We had a total of 67 pre registered cars before the day of the show which is below our record of 90. ü There were 24 Trucks, 24vendors, 50 students and Volunteers. This was the 3rd year that we completed tallying the ballots for winners before 2:00p.m because we utilized student authored software which has been helped make the ballot count much easier. All proceeds went to benefit the classes at the Ventura County Regional Occupation Program, which is part of our public education system serving high school students and adults here in Ventura County provided by the Ventura County Office of Education. All in all a very successful day! Many thanks to our sponsors, participants, staff members, students, volunteers, and the public for helping us provide our students with the Occupational skills they need to be successful! |
